Democracy

First of, booyah! The nuggets beat the spurs in round 1! I can't believe it, away somemore!

Back to the the topic

Democracy, (according to wikipedia) demos = people and kratos = rule. The government is chosen by the people supposedly FOR the people. Is democracy really the most suitable form of government for all nations?

Let's make our world smaller, that's what my economics lecturer used to say. American idol really represents what democracy is right? You have a bunch of "politicians" on stage presenting, and you have the "critics" to evaluate the "presidential race". Last but not least, the voters are then left to decide, ... (imagine Ryan Seacrest's voice) "Who is ... your next president?"

All of this sounds ideal, the majority of the people get what they want in the end. The minority are left hoping they won't be disappointed in the next elections.

Then you have the best thing that ever happened to american idol, they successfully voted through the worst singer into the top 7. Which illustrates the flaw for democracy.

(1) Unfortunately, votes can be fished for some incentives. What are the incentives for the worst singer to win the competition? - It's funny - Simon swore he would quit - No one would watch american idol ever again - And that would be funny.

(2) It would be unfortunate for someone like that to lead a country :D

(3) Corruption. Can't deny it. Do you know that Africa is actually a country rich with resources? More blessed than Singapore, Hong Kong and Switzerland. Malaysia could be a future Philippines or Indonesia ... Click here for more inside dirt on Malaysia. It's too disappointing for a patriotic Malaysian such as I.

I don't think its the system that's flawed. To err is human, or should I say human is to err? As they say, "garbage in garbage out". With our natural human tendencies, no system in the world would ever make our lives as efficient and as ideal as we would it to be.

Are we supposed to change societies then? Don't think too far, let's just focus on our part.

"Be the change you want to see in the world"
- Mahatma Ghandi
